Anti Inflammatory Smoothie

1 cup of water
2 cups of kale or combination with others like spinach, beet greens, swiss chard..whatever is on hand
1/2 carrot
1 or 2 stalks of celery
1/2 apple
1 banana or mango (to thicken & add nutrients)
1/2 cup blueberries (& cranberries)
1/2 orange or lemon or lime (no rind..tastes bitter)
Optional: add, pineapple chunks, grapes, etc to taste or any fruit in season that is on hand
Ginger root, 1-inch thumb size (fresh or dried)
Tumeric, 1-inch thumb size (fresh or dried)
***A shake or 2 of black pepper to make your body use the Turmeric
Flaxseed ground, 1 or 2 heaping tablespoons
Optional Hemp seed 1 tbls (for the heart)

Use a mighty blender like the Vitamix to liquify & smooth

This can be a meal replacement, very filling.

**I use the 32 oz jar which gives me 4 servings (+ -).
**I store the extra servings in the frig if using the next day or freeze (defrost smoothie container in a larger container with cold water) when wanted.
**I use a lot of frozen fruits but like to use fresh veg if possible. I make Kale pucks & freeze, also frozen spinach, beet greens & swiss chard. Variety LOL.
** I do not use any protein powders or processed additives with umpteen chemicals. The ingredients are all you need. Play with it & find what tastes you like.

This smoothie replaced the daily dosage of 6 extra-strength Tylenol for arthritis & gave me a ton of energy that pushed me out the door for a brisk (yes, brisk) walk. Hubby now has it daily for his arthritis too. So what have you got to lose?

Spicy Black Bean Hummus

I have discovered hummus in the last few years and experiment to get the taste I like. Try this one to see if you do not like it too!

1 15 oz. can black beans, liquid reserved

1-2  large garlic clove

1 Tbls. tahini

1 Tbls. sesame oil

2-3 T. lemon juice (¼ c) fresh lemon if possible

1 tsp Miso or scant 1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp coriander

1/4 t. smoked paprika (regular paprika will also work, but the smoked is worth the splurge!)

2 or 3 Tbls Sriracha to taste.

1-2 T. of the reserved bean liquid

1/4 c. fresh or dried parsley (or cilantro if you love it)

Pulse the garlic first in a food processor until minced. Add the rest of the ingredients up to the cilantro. Pulse it in last. Use enough lemon to suit your taste and bean liquid to make it as thin or thick as you like. I used about 2 1/2 tablespoons of lemon juice and about 2 tablespoons of bean liquid.

Dream customer!

Not just a thanks for the lovely tea cozy! Maggie has an oversized teapot like mine but with very little call for this size, it was custom made for her. I found her to be a lovely person to deal with, an ex-patriot Canadian living in Australia for many years. Read her letter of thanks & be sure to see the picture she sent at the end of her letter to me.

Hello Shirley,

I trust you and your families are faring well during this very trying time of the COVID pandemic, and pray you all will stay that way. Hopefully, the weather is kind so that you can enjoy a walk and some sunshine.
I got up this morning for my first cup of tea for the day and remembered I hadn’t thanked you for the tea cozies and beautifully gifted pot holders, which of course will remain as table decorations. You are so very kind. I have washed my old cozy and it will now join the ‘outside’ table wear.
When your parcel arrived, we were just leaving for a northern seaside town, and I put several parcels away for attention upon our return.  We ended up staying away for a month instead of our usual week sojourn. Then it was getting back to home and trying to re-establish some sense of normalcy amid this COVID -19, and pick up the threads of where I left off.

How delighted I was with my purchases and your craftsmanship.
I’ve taken a photo of my delights. Your giggle for the day. Not the best shot at 7:AM. I just wanted you to know everything had arrived.
Cheers and Blessings, Maggie

Maggie with her new Canada Tea Cozies…1 on the big pot & 1 on her head…tsk tsk. Such a nice person to deal with. Thanks for shopping in my shop for your tea cozies.

Make & Donate Face Masks

This is a pretty easy pattern to make with your cotton scraps plus, I like this one because you can adapt it to a filter. The ties are the most requested by the medical community so you can sew & donate to anyone with the need for a non-surgical mask. Great if you need to slip out of lock-down for necessities, laundromat, have a cold or just getting out for some fresh air. I used elastic till I ran out then made my own binding but you can also use a washable ribbon. I have coffee filters (yes we still use the old fashioned coffeemaker), cut to size and twist tie garden twine for the nose shaping (both are at the dollar store). The fabric should be pre-washed but if not, make your masks then wash to get the preservatives out of the cotton. Happy sewing & remember the joy is in the giving.

Face-mask pattern to use up your cotton scraps.

Here is another one you can make if you have vacuum bags.

A study performed at Cambridge University during the H1N1 flu pandemic concluded that the vacuum bags were one of the top materials to use as a DIY surgical mask. The filtration and material of the bags helped capture the harmful airborne pathogens and provide protection to the users wearing the mask made of vacuum bags. It will fit most Medium/ Large 6 to 8 cup standard teapots as displayed in the picture. Measures 12 inches wide by 9 inches high. Please see the Dome Tea Cozy Size Chart in the pictures. This tea cozy is pre-made and ready to ship.

~This Dome Tea Cozy is “over the pot” style tea cozy that fits most 4 – 8 cup teapots.
~The front and back are slightly curved to accommodate the teapot belly, so the tea cozy touches the surface after placing it over the pot.
~2 layers of batting are used, Insul-Brite and poly batting to insulate the cozy so it will keep your tea hot.
~3 layers of cotton used outer layer, inner lining plus a quilt backing layer.
~Easy care, machine wash & dry on gentle cycle, touch up with an iron if needed.
Do not microwave as insul-brite has a layer of space-age metal

**Please measure your teapot before ordering to avoid returning the tea cozy because it does not fit your teapot. Measure the height from the bottom to the teapot to the top of the lid, and the handle to the spout. If your teapot measures less than the size of this cozy ( 12″W X 9″ H) it should fit. The toiletry bag is the perfect solution. It’s shape and size is perfect for holding all of your necessary toiletries while traveling and the perfect size to fit all those tiny bottles and jars and more. Fill the bag with some travel size products and you have a great gift!

You could use these as party favors (filled with treats), Bridesmaids gifts (filled with necessities for the big day), Groomsman Gift for Shaving & Toiletries, Christmas gifts filled with homemade spa products, or a birthday gift for a guy or gal who travels or just wants everything at their fingertips at grooming times.

Tea Superstitions

Tea Superstitions
Tea Superstitions
  • To stir the pot counter-clockwise will stir up trouble.
  • To make tea stronger than usual indicates a new friendship,
  • To spill a little tea while making it is a lucky omen,
  • If the lid is accidentally left off the teapot, you may expect a stranger bringing bad news,
  • To put milk in your tea before sugar is to cross the path of love, perhaps never to marry,
  • Two teaspoons, accidentally placed together on the same saucer, points to a wedding or a pregnancy,
  • If two women should pour from the same teapot, one of them will have a baby within the year,
  • Tea spilling from the spout of the teapot while being carried indicates a secret will be revealed,
  • Undissolved sugar in the bottom of your teacup means that there is someone sweet on you,
  • If the tag falls off the teabag while it’s in your cup, you will lose something within a week.
